Clinic and UK private prices are self-published ranges from a handful of sellers; the NHS fee applies only where an NHS dentist will take the patient on.
A dental bridge replaces a missing tooth by fixing a false tooth to crowns on the teeth either side. In England the NHS charges one fee for it: £332.10 from April 2026, whatever the bridge's span.1 Private dentists in the UK, and clinics in Turkey and Hungary, usually price it per unit instead.
That difference makes many price comparisons misleading. A bridge for one missing tooth is normally three units: two crowns on the neighbouring teeth and the false tooth between them. A per-unit price has to be multiplied by three before it can be compared with the NHS fee or a UK bridge quote.
A clinic abroad quotes a dental bridge from €250. On the NHS in England, a whole bridge costs £332.10. Is that a saving?
| Where | How a bridge is priced | Three-unit bridge, as quoted |
|---|---|---|
| NHS England | One Band 3 charge per course of treatment1 | £332.10 |
| NHS Scotland | 80% of the cost, capped per course of treatment1 | Up to £384 |
| UK private, two price guides | Per unit | £800 to £2,000 for a traditional bridge (DentistCost)2. £750 to £1,500 in smaller towns, £3,150 to £5,850 in London (Dentists Closeby)3 |
| Turkey, dental association fee list | Per crown, bridge as a multiple | 12,500 lira per zirconia crown. 37,500 lira for a zirconia bridge replacing one tooth4 |
| Turkey, two clinics | Per unit | €250 to €600 a zirconia unit, €750 to €1,800 for three (DentSpa)5. $600 to $1,800 in Istanbul (Kristal Clinic)6 |
| Hungary, one Budapest clinic | Per tooth | €205 a metal-ceramic unit, €330 a zirconia unit (La Porta Dental)7 |
One fee on the NHS, a price per unit elsewhere
The NHS website lists a bridge, "a fixed replacement for a missing tooth or teeth," in Band 3.8 It also says a patient who needs several treatments from the same band pays the band charge once. So in England, £332.10 covers the bridge and any other Band 3 work in the same course.
Scotland works differently. Patients there pay 80% of the cost of their NHS treatment, up to £384 a course.1
Outside the NHS, prices are per unit. Kristal Clinic in Istanbul says a bridge is "calculated per unit — each crown or pontic (the replacement tooth) counts as one unit."6 La Porta Dental in Budapest lists its crown and bridge prices "per tooth."7
The Turkish Dental Association's fee list follows the same logic. According to an Antalya clinic that publishes the 2026 list, a zirconia crown is 12,500 lira and a zirconia bridge replacing one tooth is 37,500 lira.4 That is exactly three crowns.
Putting the quotes on one basis
Multiplying by three changes the picture. La Porta's per-tooth prices come to €615 for a three-unit metal-ceramic bridge and €990 for zirconia. DentSpa's €250 to €600 per zirconia unit becomes €750 to €1,800.5
Those totals are well above the NHS England fee of £332.10. They are below most private UK quotes. DentistCost puts a traditional three-unit bridge at £800 to £2,000.2 Dentists Closeby gives £750 to £1,500 in smaller towns and £3,150 to £5,850 in London.3
The two UK guides overlap but do not match. Both are price guides rather than surveys with a stated sample, and neither says how many practices it drew on. Treat them as ranges, not averages.
What the headline numbers leave out
The neighbouring teeth. A conventional bridge needs the two teeth beside the gap cut down for crowns, even when they are healthy. A 2023 meta-analysis of 37 studies found pulp necrosis, where the nerve inside the tooth dies, in 5.02% of teeth after crowns and similar restorations.9
The same review found infection at the root tip was more common when teeth carried a bridge. The authors rated the certainty of the evidence as low.
How long a bridge lasts. A 2015 systematic review pooled 40 studies of bridges supported by natural teeth.10 It estimated that 94.4% of metal-ceramic bridges survived five years. For densely sintered zirconia, the material most clinics abroad quote, the figure was 90.4%. Zirconia bridges also had more decay in the supporting teeth and more chipping of the porcelain.
The implant alternative. An implant replaces one missing tooth without touching its neighbours, but costs more. The Istanbul chain Hospitadent quotes a single implant at $600 to $1,200 in Turkey and £2,000 to £3,500 in the UK.11 Kristal Clinic's lowest three-unit bridge quote, $600, matches the bottom of Hospitadent's implant range.
Other kinds of bridge. Not every bridge is three crowns. DentistCost lists an adhesive, or "Maryland", bridge separately, at £500 to £1,200 in the UK.2 It puts an implant-supported bridge at £2,500 to £6,000 per unit. A quote that does not name the type cannot be compared with one that does.
The extras. La Porta Dental charges €40 for a panoramic X-ray and €120 for a 3D scan.7 DentSpa advises asking whether work on the supporting teeth is included in the quote.5
How to compare quotes
Ask every clinic the same three questions, in writing. How many units is this bridge? What is the total for the whole bridge? What else is charged, such as X-rays, scans or temporary teeth?
Then compare the total against two figures: the NHS fee where you live, if you can get an NHS dentist, and the cost of a single implant. A per-unit price is only a third of the answer.
