Dental Implants Abroad: What the Price Actually Covers
Research & verification
We independently research information from publicly available sources. Claims are cross-checked against multiple sources where possible. When sources disagree, the disagreement is reported rather than resolved by assumption. LymyVoyage does not provide medical advice or make individual treatment recommendations.

Which items are excluded from an advertised price is consistently documented across independent 2026 sources; the size of the final gap is not, and the guides disagree by more than 2x on the same procedure.
The advertised price of a dental implant abroad is one of the most quotable numbers in medical tourism and one of the least useful. A UK comparison guide updated in February 2026 puts a single implant at £250–£700 in Turkey against £2,000–£3,200 in the UK.1 The arithmetic is not in dispute. What each of those numbers is counting is.
Read across eleven 2026 price guides, clinic pages and hospital-group pages and the same items keep appearing on the "billed separately" side of the ledger: extractions, bone grafts, sinus lifts, temporary teeth, the return trip, the flights. None is hidden in the sense of being concealed — they are simply not in the headline. What follows is a checklist for reading a quote, not a ranking of countries, because the evidence supports the mechanism far more firmly than any particular final bill.
"A dental implant for £250 abroad, instead of £2,000 at home." The price gap is real and it is easy to check. But a price is only a price if you know what it covers. What is that £250 actually buying?
What the eight-country price guides actually say
The most itemised of the 2026 guides lists single-implant prices in pounds across eight destination countries, with the UK as the baseline.1
| Country | Single implant (with crown) | All-on-4, per arch |
|---|---|---|
| Turkey | £250–£700 | £1,800–£4,000 |
| India | £300–£900 | not published |
| Bulgaria | £500–£800 | not published |
| Hungary | £500–£1,300 | £4,500–£7,500 |
| Poland | £500–£1,100 | £4,000–£6,500 |
| Thailand | £600–£800 | £5,500–£7,500 |
| Spain | £700–£1,200 | £4,500–£7,000 |
| Mexico | £700–£1,400 | £4,500–£9,000 |
| United Kingdom | £2,000–£3,200 | £7,000–£12,000 |
A second guide, published in March 2026 and priced in dollars, covers an overlapping set and lands in the same neighbourhood — Turkey at $500–$1,200 per implant, Hungary at $800–$1,200, India at $400–$800, Mexico at $900–$1,500, Thailand at $1,100–$2,300.2 The UK baseline is the firmest figure here: a survey of 1,125 UK practices puts a private single implant at £1,800–£3,500, median £2,500,3 and an international hospital group's own patient guide gives the identical £1,800–£3,500 range4 — two independent sources on the same band. Our procedure-by-procedure cost table lands in the same neighbourhood, at $500–$1,200 for Hungary — a market whose growth claims are worth checking separately.
Where the same procedure stops meaning the same thing
The largest distortions in these tables are not fees at all. They are unit mismatches.
The first is arches. "All-on-4" is a single-jaw treatment, so a quote can legitimately describe one arch or two. The same guide that lists Turkey at £1,800–£4,000 per arch lists £4,000–£8,000 for both,1 while a Turkey-specific 2026 price page lists £4,500–£7,500 per arch and £9,000–£15,000 for both.5 Those two disagree by more than a factor of two on the identical procedure in the same year — most plausibly because they assume different implant brands and bridge materials, since the higher-priced page specifies final zirconia bridges and same-day temporaries as standard inclusions.
Three 2026 guides price All-on-4 in Turkey at £1,800–£4,000,1 $3,500–$8,0002 and £4,500–£7,5005 per arch — same procedure, same country, same year.
The second is components. A Czech clinic group's 2026 European cost guide warns that "some clinics quote 'from £1,500' and that's just the screw — you still need the abutment, the crown, the CT scan, and possibly a bone graft."6 UK component pricing shows the scale: fixture £400–£800, abutment £200–£400, crown £600–£1,200.3 The same guide's much-quoted Czech figure of €1,647 is one implant with its crown, not a full mouth.6
The third is trips. The standard Czech protocol runs to three visits to Prague — placement, then abutment and impression three to six months later, then crown fitting three to four weeks after that.6 Only the first is usually in the package.
The items that reappear on every "not included" list
Four independent sources itemise the extras, and they agree on which items are extra far more than on what they cost. Bone grafting is listed at £200–£500 per area,1 £150–£500 per site,5 €130–€600,4 and €400–€2,0006 — a spread wide enough that the graft alone can exceed the advertised implant price. Sinus lifts show the same pattern: £300–£800 in one guide1 against €800–€1,950 in a hospital group's own table.4 Extractions run £50–£150 per tooth and temporary crowns £100–£300.1 This is not a marginal add-on: around 30% of UK implant cases need a graft.3
Packages exclude the journey too. Turkish all-inclusive bundles routinely cover transfers, hotel, X-rays and CT, clinical appointments and aftercare contact,7 but one provider states flatly that they "do not cover flights, travel insurance, or local transport beyond appointments."8 Flights are put at £50–£3001 and £120–£300,5 with food and personal spending at £300–£700.7 The same Turkish guide notes that the temporary arch worn during healing is included by some packages and charged separately by others.7
What the headline numbers leave out
The costs that do not appear in any quote are the ones incurred at home. In a British Dental Association survey of 1,000 UK dentists, 86% said they had treated patients who developed problems after treatment abroad; implants were second only to crowns as the procedure most likely to need follow-up work, at 85%. Of those dentists, 65% put the cost of remedial care at £500 or more, 51% above £1,000 and 20% above £5,000, and more than 40% said the remedial treatment was delivered on the NHS.9 The figures are reported identically by two trade outlets,910 but they come from one survey, conducted in 2022, answered by the clinicians who see failures — it measures what remediation costs, not how often it is needed. That distinction gets mangled often enough that we took it apart separately: the 86% is a share of dentists, not of patients who travelled, and it is routinely misquoted as the latter.
There is also no domestic fallback for the original treatment. The NHS funds implants only after head and neck cancer, trauma, or severe medical need, not for routine missing teeth.3 A failed implant placed abroad is a private UK bill.
How to use these numbers
Treat the advertised price as an input, not an answer. Send every clinic the same three questions before comparing anything: is this price per arch or for both; what happens to the quote if the CBCT scan shows I need a graft or a sinus lift; and how many trips does this plan require. Then ask for the answer as a written itemised quote — the recommendation that shows up independently in at least three of the 2026 guides.1211
Build every comparison from the same eight lines: implant, abutment, crown, imaging, extractions, graft or sinus lift, temporary teeth, and travel for every trip the plan requires rather than only the first. Add a contingency for remedial work at home, sized by the BDA bands rather than by optimism. A package £1,500 dearer but genuinely fixed can beat an itemised quote £1,500 cheaper and open-ended. Turkey's hair-transplant clinics sell against the US on exactly this difference — a fixed bundle versus a per-unit price — which is a pricing model, not a discount. Either can be the right answer — but only once both are priced on the same assumptions.
