Turkish hair transplant clinics often promise a guarantee. One Istanbul clinic gives every patient a certificate of a "lifetime guarantee" on graft growth, "with a success rate of over 98%".[^1] Another clinic in Antalya says such certificates "have no legal validity" in Turkey and refuses to issue one.[^2]

So what does a hair transplant guarantee cover? We read the guarantee wording published by four Turkish clinics and one facilitator. Only one set out its full terms: the growth threshold, the deadline, and what cancels it.

## What the guarantees say

| Clinic | What is promised | Threshold and timing | Who pays travel for a redo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hair Restoration Turkey | Free top-up transplant[^3] | Under 80% of implanted grafts grown at 15 months[^3] | Patient; flights, hotel and transfers excluded[^3] |
| Dr. Serkan Aygin Clinic | "Lifetime guarantee on the growth of the transplanted grafts"[^1] | "Success rate of over 98%"; no published trigger[^1] | Not stated[^1] |
| Clinic Center (facilitator) | Free transplant "in the unlikely event of any malpractice"[^4] | Not stated[^4] | Not stated[^4] |
| AHD Clinic, Antalya | No guarantee certificate; a document confirming the procedure[^2] | None[^2] | None[^2] |
| Esteworld | No result guaranteed[^5] | Results reviewed at 12 months[^5] | Not applicable[^5] |

This is a handful of clinics, not a survey of the Turkish market. It shows how much the wording varies.

## The one set of terms in full

Hair Restoration Turkey publishes its terms on its website. It guarantees that 80% of implanted hairs will grow. If fewer than 80% have regrown after 15 months, it will "implant the quantity missing to the 80% free of charge".[^3]

The guarantee covers only the transplanted hairs. Overall density, including your own original hair, is not covered.[^3] It cannot be claimed before the end of the 15th month.[^3] The repeat treatment takes place only in Turkey, and the patient pays for flights, accommodation and airport transfers.[^3]

## What cancels the guarantee

The same terms list 18 situations in which the guarantee "is cancelled automatically".[^3] Some are medical, such as chemotherapy or an injury to the area. Others are about what the patient does in the weeks after surgery:

- smoking before, during or in the two weeks after the operation[^3]
- missing a check-up, or not sending photos "on time, in the required quality"[^3]
- washing the implanted area in the first week, or using shampoo before the third week[^3]
- sport or exertion in the first four weeks[^3]
- drinking alcohol regularly[^3]
- having a hair transplant at another clinic[^3]

Each condition is something the clinic would need to check, and the patient would need to prove. Any problem must also be reported to the clinic in writing, "immediately". Otherwise the guarantee "cannot be validated".[^3]

Esteworld's guide lists similar grounds. Not following aftercare instructions, smoking during recovery and underlying medical conditions "may affect guarantee validity".[^5]

## How often grafts survive

The 98% and 80% figures sit inside a range that studies report. A 2020 meta-analysis in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery pooled studies of patients with non-scarring hair loss. It found average graft survival of about 85% with micrografts, and about 93% with micrografts and minigrafts combined.[^6]

A 2024 study of 158 men treated by FUE (follicular unit extraction) at a Chinese university hospital reported over 90% of follicles surviving.[^7] More than 85% of patients had survival above 95% at 12 months.[^7]

Those are averages. They do not tell an individual patient what their own result will be. The IBTimes clinic guide warns that "no calculation can guarantee a fixed survival percentage".[^8] A Turkish surgeon's blog goes further, saying a guarantee is "not possible" because the patient's own aftercare plays a vital role.[^9]

## What Turkish consumer law adds

A certificate is not the only protection. As summarised by Bahçeci, a Turkish law firm, Turkey's consumer protection law (Law 6502) treats a hair transplant at a private clinic as a consumer transaction.[^10]

Under that law, a service is defective if it lacks the features the provider advertised on its website or in its adverts. The provider is bound by its own advertising unless it can prove one of three narrow exceptions.[^10] A patient with a defective service can choose to have it performed again, a price cut or cancellation. The provider pays the costs of that choice.[^10]

So a clinic that advertises "98% graft survival" may be held to it under consumer law, whatever its certificate says. Claims have a two-year limit from the date of the treatment under the same law, as the law firm reports.[^10] We could not fetch the law's text from Turkey's official legislation site to check its wording.

## What the guarantees leave out

- **Measuring the threshold.** None of the published terms we read explain how the clinic would count what share of grafts grew. Hair Restoration Turkey's 80% test is measured by the clinic that did the work.[^3]
- **Travel.** A free redo in Istanbul still costs a patient from abroad the flights and hotel, in the one set of terms that addresses it.[^3]
- **"Lifetime" is undefined.** The Serkan Aygin page does not say what "lifetime" covers, what triggers it or what the patient must do.[^1] We did not find its full terms published.
- **Shock loss is normal.** Esteworld notes that existing hair can shed after surgery and usually grows back after three to four months.[^5] Results often take 12 months or more, so an early claim may be premature.[^5]

## What to ask before you pay

Ask for the guarantee terms in writing, before the deposit. Check four things: the growth threshold, the date it is measured, every condition that cancels it, and who pays travel for a repeat.

Keep your own dated photos from the day of surgery and at each month. Keep the treatment plan with the graft count. Our article on [Turkish hair transplant packages](/articles/turkey-s-all-inclusive-hair-transplant-packages-vs-us-procedure-only-pricing) compares what the package price covers. For a guarantee that is more tightly defined, see how [dental implant warranties](/articles/dental-implant-warranty-abroad) are written.

Turkish hair transplant clinics hand out "lifetime guarantee" certificates promising over 98% graft growth. What does that certificate actually make the clinic do?

In the one set of full terms we found, the clinic tops up your grafts only if fewer than 80% grow by month 15. You pay the flights.

The same terms list 18 ways to lose the guarantee. They include smoking in the two weeks after surgery, missing a check-up photo, and using shampoo before week three.

Graft survival itself is usually high. A 2020 meta-analysis found about 85% to 93% on average, depending on the graft type.

Under Turkish consumer law, as a law firm reports, a clinic can be held to what it advertised. That may matter more than the certificate.

These terms cannot tell you how many of your own grafts will grow. They only tell you what happens if not enough do.

Before paying a deposit, get the threshold, the date, every exclusion and who pays travel in writing. Save this before you book.
